On the evening of Weds 16th November The Sleeping Giant Foundation, with sponsorship from the WDA, launched Len Ley's new book 'The Iron Cradle', at Craig y Nos Castle.

'The Iron Cradle' tells the wider world of the history of Ystradgynlais and the Upper Swansea Valley during the period of the industrial revolution and the remarkable story of local human endeavour during this period. Len came to live and work in Ystradgynlais as a Police Sergeant in 1974 and through conversations with local residents soon realised that the town and its surrounding communities played a significant role in the industrial revolution both here and in the U.S.A.

With over 65 guests there were plenty of people to congratulate Len and purchase signed copies of his book. Later in the evening Len took guests into the wonderful Patti theatre where he told the life history of Adelina Patti which brought her and the Castle to life. A further tour to her private Chapel (now the Castle's Bridal Suite) gave people the opportunity to explore the Castle further. Many thanks to Martin Glover and the staff at Craig y Nos Castle for their hospitality and allowing us to tour the Castle.

'The Iron Cradle' can be bought from the Sleeping Giant Foundation for £7.99. With Christmas coming this would make an ideal present. Please call 01639 731062 - hurry as they are going fast!

'The Iron Cradle' was printed by Glamorgan Press and bound by Book Print 2000.
